Class Expectations

The following are important class expectations for both in-person and online students and parents.
In-Person Learning
To ensure that everyone has a safe and engaging experience while attending our physical classroom, all students are expected to know and follow the following safety protocols:

Face covering
  • Starting Monday, March 21, 2022, face coverings are optional for coaches, students and staff.
  • All in-person coaches are vaccinated and had the booster as well.

Building access
  • Lobby is closed and restroom is only open for students and coaches.
  • Door to the Overlake center will be locked when class is in session.  Students who are late will need to ring a doorbell and our coach will let them in.
  • Parents to pick up students on time as students are not allowed to congregate in the lobby.

Cleaning and disinfecting
  • Tables and other high touch areas will be wiped clean with disinfectant wipes after each class.
  • All students need to use the provided hand sanitizer (located in the lobby) before they go in to class.

Individual learning materials and writing instruments
  • Sharing of student personal items such as pencil, eraser, and other devices are not allowed. Students will be given a binder on first day of class to keep printed classwork. Students need to bring their own personal writing instruments (pencils/pens, erasers, etc.) and notebook.

Staying home when sick
Students must stay home if showing symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness. In addition, parents should monitor their students who have been exposed to an individual with COVID-like symptoms and, if they become sick, stay home.  To protect your student, other students and coaches and staff from potential illness, please keep children at home when they are too sick to attend a class. Please review the links from various school districts below on how to determine if your child should stay home:
  • LWSD: https://www.lwsd.org/programs-and-services/health-services/too-sick-for-school
  • Bellevue School District: https://bsd405.org/services/health/too-sick-for-school/
  • Northshore School District: https://www.nsd.org/schools/get-started/health-services/when-should-my-child-stay-home
  • Issaquah School District: https://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/family/health

If there is a new restriction by CDC or by Washington State
Concurrent classes will change to Online classes if indoor gatherings are not allowed. We will follow recommendation by CDC or the State

Online Learning
To ensure that everyone has a safe and engaging experience, all students are expected to know and follow these basic rules:

Class Time
  • Classes will begin on time so please plan to log in about few minutes before the scheduled start time.

Set Up
  • Avoid setting up in a noisy place or where people are constantly passing by.  Prepare notebook and writing instruments.
  • Do not use other devices during class including mobile phones, game systems, etc.
  • As you will be on camera, please dress appropriately. Camera needs to be ‘on’ during the class.

Online Class Requirements
  •  Computing device (Windows, MAC, iOS, Linux, etc) with:
    •  Microphone, speaker or headset and camera
    •  Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, etc)
    •  Browser need to enable Cookies and JavaScript
    •  Good internet connection

During Class
  • Students are required to turn on their camera during class.  Any exception will require an email note from parents.
  • If your student is using a virtual background for the zoom meetings, the virtual background needs to be non-distracting
  • For students to be successful, it is expected that they:
    • Pay attention and participate in class activities.
    • Complete homework.
    • Follow class rules.
  • Each student should have a notebook dedicated for the class for taking notes, working on calculation, etc.
  • Please provide your student(s) with pencils, erasers or other Math tools as needed.
  • Students are required to attend the class and learn independently.  Parents are not allowed to attend the class along side their students.  This is for the best interest of students and the class as well.  We want students to be independent learners and having parents there are detrimental to their learning progress and disrupts not only their learning, but also the class.
  • Do not eat during the class as this can be distracting to others.
  • As you may be asked to share your screen, we ask that only class-appropriate apps are running and that your desktop background image, file names, etc. are appropriate.
  • Mute your microphone when you’re not talking as this helps avoid echoes and random background noise being broadcast into the classroom.  When you do speak, please speak clearly so everyone can understand you.
  • Whether you are talking on camera or using chat, always be respectful to everyone in the class.
  • Any communication with the instructor or other students should be related to class topics, not memes, spam, or inappropriate material.
  • Please stay seated and present during class.
  • If you do need to leave, please let the instructor know that you are stepping away from your computer.
  • During lessons, you can “raise your hand” or ask your question in the chat window.
  • Due to privacy and security reasons, classes will not be recorded.
