PREPARING FOR THE TEST
ON THE TEST DAY
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE TEST
PREPARING FOR THE TEST
- Please ensure that the device that your student will be using to take the test meet the following system’s requirements:
- Desktop, laptop or mobile device with a browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc)
- Configure your browser to enable Cookies, 3rd Party Cookies and JavaScript. You can search on how to do this specifically for the browser you are planning to use
- Good internet connection
- Please plan ahead to determine the time and a quiet location (where your student will not be disturbed) for taking the test (for example, their study room) and ensure that their device is working and internet is connected
- Please ensure that your student (especially for the younger students - grade 1 and 2) is familiar with using their devices (i.e. computer, mouse/track pad and keyboard, etc.) for online navigation. They will need to select an answer, navigate from one question to another, etc
- Both parents and students need to review the MCT policy/rules HERE
- Prepare several sheets of scratch paper and extra pencil
- No calculator allowed
- Practice for the test. Starting 2021, all MCT practice materials have been migrated to our online environment to simulate an actual tournament experience. You can find available practices HERE
- You can go through a brief step by step instructions on how to take the MCT test HERE
ON THE TEST DAY
- Starting the Test
- When it is time for your student to take the test, click on the provided test link. If the link doesn’t resolve the first time, try it again. We anticipate high traffic because of the large number of students participating in this tournament
- The test link will take you to the test page containing summary of instructions. Scroll down until you see the Test Section
- Enter the provided student’s passcode. Passcode is case sensitive and can’t have any space. Please enter this passcode carefully
- Enter your student’s first name and last name. This is the name that our system will use to generate your student’s certificate, so please enter it carefully. We won’t be able to change this after it is entered
- Enter parent’s email address in the email address field. This is the email address that our system will use to send the test result
- You will then see a test introduction page with a “Start” button. Once your student have read this, they can click on the “Start” button to start the test and the 60 minutes timer will start
- Taking and Navigating the Test
- Students have 60 minutes to complete a total of 60 multiple choice questions (40 mental math type questions and 20 problem solving type questions). Students will see a countdown timer at the top left of each page. If students run out of time, the test will be finished automatically and any answers on the current page will also be submitted so they will not lose any work
- Students may skip questions that they do not know how to answer
- Students may navigate and go back and forth to previous and next questions by clicking on the “Previous” and “Next” button appropriately. Students need to avoid using the browser back and forward button as this will not work
- Student’s answers are saved as they submit each one, not at the end of the Test. This means that they will not lose any work
- Submitting the Test
- Once students are done with the test, they need to click on the “Finish now” button to indicate that they are done with the test and then they need to click on “Confirm finish now” to submit the test for scoring
- Once the test is submitted, you will be provided with the opportunity to download and print your student’s certificate. The link to this certificate will also be included in the test result email that will be sent on Dec 13th
- Troubleshooting (if the unexpected happened)
- If your student test page freezes, they can click the browser's refresh button and the test should load on the same question your student was on
- If your student accidentally close the browser, they can reopen the same browser that they used before, click on the test link again and resume the test. Please note that the timer doesn’t stop
- If your student suddenly lost internet connectivity, once it is back on, they can refresh the page and resume the test. Please note that the timer doesn’t stop
- If for some reason, a student’s computer or browser crashed or closed unexpectedly, or your internet is down for a period of time. If things are back online within 20 minutes or so, your student should be able to open the same Web browser, click on the test link again and resume the test. Please note that the timer will continue and student will lose the time
