Introduction to Competitive Math Description: this class is intended for incoming 3rd or 4th grade students (in Fall 2024) who are interested in strengthening their problem-solving skills and preparing themselves for various math competitions. The math tasks and activities provided are designed to foster creative problem solving, extend student math knowledge and skills, and expose students to challenging questions found in Math Olympiad, Math Kangaroo and Math Challenge Tournament. Total instruction time for this class is 12.5 hours. NOTE: There are 2 tracks for this class, A and B. The prerequisites for either track are the same. The class contents covered for track A and B are different and so, students can take either A or B or both tracks. Detail information about various contents covered in either track can be found HERE. Self-test: to determine if this class is suitable/appropriate for your student, we recommend that students download and take the self-test. Students should be able to answer 22 questions correctly in 30 minutes (without calculator). If a student struggles with these problems, then he/she might want to consider our Ellipsis FlexMath program.
