Curriculum
Advanced and Rigorous
Our proprietary curriculum is advanced and rigorous; it is specifically designed and proven to advance and deepen students Math fundamentals and problem-solving skills in a way that is challenging yet achievable. We believe that the ability to think critically, analyze information, and solve problems is essential for success in both academic and professional contexts. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with ample opportunities to learn, practice and develop these skills.
Our curriculum and teaching approach are also designed to ensure that students have a thorough understanding of core mathematical concepts and are able to apply them effectively to a wide range of problems and scenarios. We carefully prioritize curriculum continuity and ensuring mastery of concepts. We believe that every student has the potential to excel in math, and we strive to create an environment that is supportive and fosters a love of learning.
Ellipsis Academy students typically tested one to three grade levels higher in Math than their school peers and they are prepared to take advantage of the opportunity to excel on the accelerated Math pathways in school.
Singapore Math
At the very core, our curriculum is based on Singapore Math that has been adapted to advance and deepen student’s math and problem solving skills and ensure their success in the U.S schools math pathways.
Year over year, Singapore Math consistently ranks at the top in international math testing and it utilizes highly effective teaching approach. Over many years, we've built on that and created a proprietary curriculum which focuses not only on strong Math fundamentals, but also on developing student's problem solving and critical thinking skills. We have also added elements of Math competitions into our curriculum to expose students to various Math competitions' problems and strategy on how to solve them.
Balanced between math fundamentals and problem solving
For every Math subject, our curriculum not only build a strong Math fundamentals, but also exposes students to various problem solving strategies along with interesting Math problems from past Math competitions. Let's take 4th grade fractions and Geometry area of shapes as an example. In addition to ensuring strong fundamentals in these subjects, our curriculum exposes students to various problem solving strategies which builds their critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning skills. See examples below.

Homework
Practice makes perfect. We strongly believe that students will be successful when they extend their study at home and practice their problem solving outside the class time. All of Ellipsis Math classes require students to complete weekly home work.
Understanding over memorization
We focus on understanding over memorization. We want to ensure that students truly "understand" how to solve a problem instead of "memorize" a process on how to solve a problem.
Engaging and fun
Although our curriculum is advanced and rigorous, we implement them in a fun and engaging way through Math activities and games. After all, Ellipsis Math students are kids and we want them to enjoy Math.
Approach
Starting Right
We strive to ensure that all students are appropriately challenged and placed in the right level. Because of this, all students who are interested in our Ellipsis Math classes (including returning students) are required to take our FREE Placement test.
Small, Dynamic Classes
Our classes are relatively small and engaging to ensure that students are comfortable to participate, interact with other students, ask questions, make mistakes and learn from them. Ellipsis FlexMath has maximum of 2 students per coach and Ellipsis Math group classes has maximum of 12 students.
Balanced Teaching Approach
We constantly involve students in group interactions through games and challenging problem solving while sharpening their math skills. We incorporate various math games and low-key contests in our classes.
Our class meetings cover concept review, in-depth lesson and discussion, in-class practice, problem solving application, and individual or group activities. Our in-class practices promote mastery and a good amount of problem solving that naturally enables students to apply concepts learned.
Math Competitions
We strongly believe that exposing students to healthy competitions early encourages them to reach their full potential. We encourage and prepare each student to participate in various math competitions. We believe in providing a valuable and fun opportunity for our young students to show case their skills in a variety of math topics. Students can take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned and to showcase their problem-solving abilities.
