Spring 2022 Ellipsis Math Placement Test

Please read through the following important information about preparing for the test, navigating the test, what to expect after the test and some troubleshooting scenarios (if needed). 

NOTE: These tests are property of Ellipsis Academy and are protected by the United States copyright law.  Please do not copy, print, take picture or share any information contained in these tests.

PREPARING FOR THE TEST

1. Please ensure that the device that your student will be using to take the test meet the following system’s requirements:
   1. Desktop, laptop or mobile device with a browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.).
   2. Configure your browser to enable Cookies, 3rd Party Cookies and JavaScript.  You can search on how to do this specifically for the browser you are planning to use.
   3. Good internet connection.
2. Please plan ahead to determine the time and a quiet location (where your student will not be disturbed) for taking the test (for example, their study room) and ensure that their device is working and internet is connected.
3. This is an assessment test, and to ensure that we can accurately analyze and determine your students’ current Math level, we ask that students do the following:
   1. Skip a question if they don't know how to answer it or if they ran out of time. 
   2. Work independently.  It is critical that students complete the test on their own, please don’t help them solve any question.
4. Students are not allowed to use a calculator or other calculating devices.
5. Please ensure that your student (especially for the younger students) is familiar with using their devices (i.e. computer, mouse/track pad and keyboard, etc.) for online navigation.  They will need to select an answer, navigate from one question to another, etc. 
6. Prepare several sheets of scratch paper and pencils.

​ON THE TEST DAY

1. Starting the Test
   1. When it is time for your student to take the test, click on the provided test link.  If the link doesn’t resolve the first time, try it again.  Please note that we anticipate high traffic because of the large number of students participating in this placement test.
   2. The test link will take you to the test page containing summary of instructions.  Scroll down until you see the Test Section.
   3. Enter the provided student’s passcode.  Please note that Passcode is case sensitive and can’t have any space.  Please enter this passcode carefully.
   4. Enter your student’s first name and last name. 
   5. ​When your student is ready to take the test, they can click on the “Start” button to start the test and the 60 minutes timer will start.
2. Taking and Navigating the Test
   1. Once started, students have 60 minutes to complete the test.  If students run out of time, the test will be finished automatically and any answers on the current page will also be submitted so they will not lose any work.
   2. Since the assessment test has a time limit, students will see a countdown timer at the top of each page. If he/she runs out of time, the test will be finished automatically and any answers on the current page will also be submitted so he/she will not lose any work.​
   3. Students may skip questions that they do not know how to answer.
   4. Students may navigate and go back and forth to previous and next questions by clicking on the “Previous” and “Next” button appropriately.  Students need to avoid using the browser back and forward button as this will not work.
   5. Student’s answers are saved as they submit each one, not at the end of the Test. This means that they will not lose any work.
3. Submitting the Test
   1. Once students are done with the test, they need to click on the “Finish now” button to indicate that they are done with the test and then they need to click on “Confirm finish now” to submit the test for scoring.
   2. If students run out of time, the test will be finished automatically and any answers on the current page will also be submitted so they will not lose any work. 
4. Troubleshooting (if the unexpected happened)
   1. If your student test page freezes, student should click refresh on the web browser and the test should load on the same question your student was on.
   2. If your student mistakenly closes the browser, they can reopen the same browser that they used before, click on the test link again and resume the test.  Please note that the timer doesn’t stop.
   3. If your student suddenly lost internet connectivity, once it is back on, they can refresh the page and resume the test.  Please note that the timer does not stop.
   4. If for some reason, a student’s computer or browser crashed or closed unexpectedly, or your internet is down for a period of time.  If things are back online within 20 minutes or so, your student should be able to open the same Web browser, go to the test link again and resume the test.  Please note that the timer will continue, and student will lose the time.
   5. If your Computer or Web browser has a problem or they are closed, using the same Web browser, re-open your Web browser and go to the Start Link for the test and your student will be taken back to the last question he/she was on, where he/she will be able to resume the test.

 WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE TEST

1. The individual placement test result email (containing the Ellipsis Math level recommendation for your student and the link to enroll your student to the recommended Ellipsis Math class) will be sent out to parents on Thursday, Jan 13th at 8pm PST.  Enrollment is first come first serve and many classes filled up quickly.  Please mark your calendar to ensure that you don’t miss this. 
2. For parents who are interested in enrolling, we recommend looking at the class schedule beforehand to determine 2 or 3 class options in case the first option is full.  The Spring 2022 Ellipsis Math class schedule can be found HERE.
3. If the enrollment link doesn’t load properly the first time, please try again.  Sometimes when there is high traffic volume, the link might not load the first time.​
